From time to time the Government will make an announcement about an inquiry being conducted by the Tribunal. Media releases announce the commencement of an inquiry, and they announce the Government’s decision on whether it has accepted Tribunal recommendations in relation to an inquiry.
From time to time the Tribunal will inquire into Defence honours and awards issues that have been referred to it by Government. Terms of Reference will be developed for each inquiry and agreed by Government. They will form the basis of the inquiry.
Once the Tribunal has completed an inquiry, it develops a report and recommendations which are then presented to Government for consideration. After a defined period of time, the Tribunal will publish its report on this website. The Tribunal does not make its reports available in hard copy.
Occasionally, the Tribunal will make submissions public, but will seek permission of submitters before doing so.
In accordance with the Tribunal Procedural Rules 2011, the Tribunal did not publish decisions in relation to applications for review for Defence awards, but did publish decisions in relation to applications for review for a Defence honour. In accordance with the Tribunal Procedural Rules 2011, as amended, publication will now occur for all applications for review of decision. This affects all applications commenced after December 2013.
The Tribunal has numerous fact sheets available explaining typical processes.
